On this occasion Prim Dr. Mirsad Babović, head of the Department for Anesthesia said that peripheral nerve blocks are performed precisely with the use of ultrasound images for accurate positioning of needle tip.The procedure is practically painless and involves the injection of local aesthetic agents in close proximity to a nerve or nerve plexuses. In case that the procedure requires continuous analgesia, the catheter may be inserted close to the nerve or plexus. As he said, peripheral nerve block can be used alone or combined with general or spinal anesthesia.
