Press conference- European Cervical Cancer Prevention Week 2019

On the occasion of the forthcoming European Cervical Cancer Prevention Week 2019, the Clinic for Gynecology and Obstetrics, University Clinical Center Tuzla hosted a press conference to present its program and activities throughout this event, with aim to generate the general public interest and awareness about cervical cancer prevention.

Prof.Dr. Dženita Ljuca, head of the Clinic for Gynecology and Obstetrics explained that the activities of the Clinic to mark European Cervical Cancer Prevention Week 2019 include an awareness lectures on cancer prevention for women, and it will be realized in all health centers and municipalities of the Tuzla Canton. The prevention action will be carried out with a constant reminder that each year there are 250 000 associated cervical cancer deaths worldwide.

Cervical cancer is the third leading cause of mortality in women caused by sexually transmitted human papillomavirus infection. Cervical cancer may be associated with vaginal bleeding, but often there are no symptoms until it develops into advanced stages. Therefore, the prevention is of crucial importance, said prof. Dr. Ljuca, and added that this year’s target group for the action “ Stop Cervical Cancer” will be persons with disabilities and mother of children with disabilities.

According to the Cervical Cancer Prevention Program in period 21 to 29 January, health care professionals will provide for the patients an overview of cervical cancer, including causes, symptoms, diagnosis, treatment, and prevention in 13 municipalities of the Tuzla Canton. Students from the Associations Medicus and Bohemsa will also join this prevention campaign and share education material and handouts.

In Tuzla, the beginning of the action is planned for 21 January, 13:00 in shopping malls Merkator, Bingo City and Omega. Following activities related to this action in the countries of the European Union, fitness class will be held on January 24, at the University Hall, starting at 18:00.

The official end of all activities is scheduled for January 29 at the Institute for the Education and Training of Disabled Persons “Kosta Popov” starting at noon.
