The hematopoietic stem cell transplant services during COVID-19 pandemic

The bone marrow transplant team from the Clinic of Hematology and Transplantation, University Clinical Center Tuzla has successfully performed six hematopoietic stem cell transplants (HSCT), three allogeneic and three autologous HSCT of bone marrow during COVID-19 pandemic.

During the last week, the team performed two allogeneic HSCT in two patients from other cantons of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina. After initial treatments at the Clinic of Hematology, University Clinical Center Sarajevo, both patients were referred to our hospital.

The total health care cost for the allogeneic HSCT abroad is approximately 250.000 EUR compared with the cost of 50.000 EUR for the same treatment in our hospital.

The bone marrow team scheduled two more autologous hemaopoietic stem cell transplants to perform in the next 15 days.
