The Eleventh International Symposium on Pulmonary Diseases officially opened at the Salis Hotel in Tuzla, drawing a large number of guests and professionals in the field. The event will be held from May 9 to 10, 2025.
The Symposium is organized by the Clinic for Pulmonary Diseases of the University Clinical Center Tuzla and the Association for Respiratory Medicine of Bosnia and Herzegovina, with the support of the Medical Chamber of Tuzla Canton. The Government of Tuzla Canton is the official patron of the event.
According to the program, the Symposium will feature the presentation of 17 professional papers across two scientific sessions, along with four expert-led workshops. These sessions will be delivered by distinguished specialists from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Slovenia, and Serbia.
The primary objective of the Symposium is to share the latest knowledge, clinical experiences, and updated treatment guidelines in the field of pulmonology, thereby contributing to the advancement of respiratory medicine in the region.
During the opening ceremony, Dr. Dženan Halilović, President of the Organizing Committee of the Symposium, welcomed all participants and wished them productive work, engaging discussions, and the formulation of conclusions that will contribute to the continued advancement of pulmonology.
He highlighted that the Eleventh Symposium on Pulmonary Diseases will address highly relevant topics, including chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), malignant respiratory conditions, updated guidelines for tuberculosis treatment, as well as viral and allergic diseases of the respiratory system.
Prim. Dr. Nada Remetić, Head of the Clinic for Pulmonary Diseases, also extended a warm welcome to the attendees. She emphasized the significance of such professional gatherings, particularly in light of the fact that respiratory illnesses remain among the leading causes of morbidity and mortality worldwide.
The Head of the Clinic for Pulmonary Diseases, Prim. Dr. Nada Remetić, also welcomed the participants of the symposium, emphasizing that the importance of such meetings is great, especially considering that respiratory diseases are among the leading causes of morbidity and mortality of the population.
On behalf of the management of the University Clinical Center Tuzla, the Assistant Director for Medical Affairs, Prof. Dr. Igor Hudić, greeted the attendees and wished them successful work, and on that occasion thanked the organizers for organizing this extremely important meeting for the professional public. “Pulmonology today faces numerous challenges, from the consequences of the COVID 19 pandemic, the increase in chronic respiratory diseases, the lung cancer epidemic, the necessity of early diagnosis to modern diagnostic and treatment procedures,” said Prof. Hudić.
The attendees were also welcomed by the Minister of Health of Tuzla Canton, Dr. Dušanka Bećirević, and the President of the Tuzla Canton Assembly, Žarko Vujović.
In her address, Minister Bećirević highlighted that this year’s symposium encompasses a wide range of topics in the field of pulmonary medicine, along with workshops that elevate the overall quality and scope of the event.
“The symposium brings together distinguished experts from across the country and the region, who, I hope, will generously share their ideas, objectives, and results. I believe this gathering will be highly constructive, and I look forward to seeing many more educational events on similar topics in the near future,” said Minister Bećirević.
