The International Day of Nurses and Technicians, observed annually on May 12 in Bosnia and Herzegovina and around the world, is an occasion to express deep gratitude and respect for the healthcare professionals who, often quietly and behind the scenes, play a vital role in safeguarding and improving the health and dignity of patients every day.
This important date marks the birthday of Florence Nightingale, the founder of modern nursing, whose compassion, dedication, and visionary approach continue to inspire nurses and technicians globally.
Nurses and technicians represent the backbone of every modern healthcare system. With their expertise, empathy, and unwavering sense of responsibility, they provide continuous medical care and essential support to patients and their families 24 hours a day, every day of the year. Their role is indispensable not only in emergencies, but also in long-term patient care and recovery.
On the occasion of May 12, International Day of Nurses and Technicians, Prof. Dr. Šekib Umihanić, Director of the University Clinical Center Tuzla, stated:
“Nurses and technicians are an indispensable pillar of every efficient and modern healthcare system. Their daily care for patients, professional responsibility, boundless empathy, adaptability, and tireless energy are of immeasurable value to the quality of healthcare services. On this day, and indeed every day, we owe them our deepest respect and gratitude. At the University Clinical Center Tuzla, we take great pride in the dedication, knowledge, and compassion our nurses and technicians demonstrate in their work. Their commitment brings not only security but also hope to countless patients and their families. On behalf of the University Clinical Center Tuzla, and in my personal name, I extend my heartfelt congratulations to all nurses and technicians on the occasion of May 12 International Nurses and Technicians Day.”
