The 4th Congress of Pathologists of Bosnia and Herzegovina will take place in Tuzla from May 22 to 24, 2025, bringing together leading national and international experts in the field of pathology. In addition to a comprehensive scientific and professional program, this year’s Congress features a unique artistic component that blends science and creativity.
As a prelude to the Congress, the Department of Pathology at the University Clinical Center Tuzla is hosting a special exhibition titled “Pathology Through Art: A Microscopic Perspective.” The exhibition showcases works by M.Sc. Aneta Vareškić and Dr. Ivana Čerkez, who offer a distinctive interpretation of pathology through acrylic on canvas. Inspired by the microscopic images of tissues and cells they examine daily in their professional practice, the artists reveal the hidden aesthetic of the microscopic world, inviting viewers to see pathology not only as a science but also as a form of visual expression.
“The goal of this project is to use the acrylic technique on canvas to depict pathohistological preparations that are normally observed under a microscope, with the intention of connecting artistic expression with pathology. In this way, we want to bring the microworld of cells and tissues closer to students and experts, but also to the general public, highlighting the beauty and complexity of histological preparations. This project has educational as well as aesthetic value. Learning pathology can truly be creative,” add Vareškić and Čerkez.
As part of the Congress, the exhibition was envisioned as a special and symbolic gift to participants and guests. This visual journey through the microworld of the human body captivated many visitors, serving as a powerful reminder of the connection between science and emotion.
According to Assoc. Prof. Dr. Azra Sadiković, President of the Organizing Committee, the 4th Congress of Pathologists of Bosnia and Herzegovina, to be held in Tuzla, will offer valuable insights into the latest advancements in molecular pathology. Special emphasis will be placed on the use of molecular genetic testing in the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of diseases.
“The Congress program includes plenary sessions, keynote lectures by renowned experts, presentations by young pathologists, and satellite symposia focused on current diagnostic tests that play a critical role in selecting appropriate treatment strategies. A multidisciplinary approach is essential for accurate diagnostics and effective therapy, and the Congress in Tuzla will serve as an important platform for professionals to exchange knowledge and ideas, contributing to ongoing professional development,” added Assoc.
