The Fourth Congress of Pathologists of Bosnia and Herzegovina with International Participation is taking place from May 22 to 24, 2025, at the Salis Hotel in Tuzla. This year’s congress places a strong emphasis on molecular pathology, a rapidly evolving field, particularly highlighting the role of molecular genetic testing in the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of various diseases.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Azra Sadiković, President of the Congress Organizing Committee, stated that the event offers a valuable platform for the exchange of knowledge, experiences, and ideas among professionals from diverse medical specialties.
“Tuzla is once again the proud host of a major national congress, bringing together leading experts and researchers in both scientific and professional capacities,” said Dr. Sadiković. “The program will cover a wide spectrum of topics, from classical cytomorphology to cutting-edge molecular pathology. Molecular testing is now a key component of virtually every pathohistological report and plays a critical role for oncologists in defining therapeutic protocols for cancer patients.”
The congress will feature numerous lectures, providing insights into the latest research findings and clinical practices. Renowned experts from across Bosnia and Herzegovina will be joined by colleagues from Montenegro, North Macedonia, Serbia, Croatia, Slovenia, Romania, Austria, and Sweden, ensuring a rich and diverse international exchange of expertise.
The scientific and professional program of the Congress includes plenary sessions, lectures by invited experts, presentations by early-career colleagues, and satellite symposia dedicated to current diagnostic methods that play a key role in guiding appropriate treatment decisions.
Given that successful diagnostics and treatment require a multidisciplinary approach, the Congress provides a unique platform for physicians from related medical fields to engage in meaningful exchange and collaboration with pathologists.
Prof. Dr. Ermina Iljazović, Head of the Department of Pathology at the Polyclinic for Laboratory Diagnostics, University Clinical Center Tuzla, welcomed participants and guests, wishing them a productive and enriching experience, filled with engaging discussions and valuable conclusions that will further advance the field of pathology.
“Pathology is one of the most fascinating medical specialties—it integrates basic science and microscopic imaging with clinical practice. It is truly an art within medicine,” said Prof. Dr. Iljazović. “This Congress is both an invitation and an opportunity for all of us to explore the beauty of modern pathology, to share personal insights, and to celebrate our scientific achievements.”
As part of the Congress, attendees will also have the chance to experience a unique art exhibition featuring the work of Aneta Vareškić, M.Sc., and Dr. Ivana Čerkez .The exhibition showcases acrylic-on-canvas pieces inspired by the microscopic images of tissues and cells the artists encounter in their daily work. This creative display reveals a different, artistic dimension of pathology, bridging science and visual art in a compelling way.
