The Clinic for Orthopedy of the University Clinical Center Tuzla (UKC Tuzla) has resumed performing total hip replacement surgeries, a highly effective procedure for patients suffering from degenerative joint conditions such as osteoarthritis. These patients often experience severe pain and limited mobility, significantly impacting their quality of life.
Dr. Adnan Kešetović, orthopedic specialist at UKC Tuzla, explains that surgery is typically recommended when conservative treatments, such as medication and physical therapy, no longer provide relief: “Total hip replacement is a surgical procedure in which a damaged hip joint, most commonly due to advanced arthrosis, is replaced with a prosthetic implant. The artificial joint consists of a ceramic femoral head, a metal cup placed in the pelvis, a polyethylene liner, and a stem implanted into the femur. This procedure significantly reduces pain and restores mobility, allowing patients to return to their daily routines and enjoy a better quality of life.”
The surgery is carried out using a multidisciplinary approach, with individualized postoperative rehabilitation plans that play a crucial role in ensuring successful recovery and a safe return to everyday activities.
