Her Excellency Helena Lagerlöf, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Sweden to Bosnia and Herzegovina, paid a working visit to the University Clinical Center (UKC) Tuzla.
During the meeting, the Director of UKC Tuzla, Prof. Dr. Šekib Umihanić, presented the organizational structure, key activities, and strategic importance of the institution for the Tuzla Canton and Bosnia and Herzegovina. Special attention was given to the long-standing collaboration between UKC Tuzla and the Swedish city of Örebro, which was highlighted as a strong foundation for expanding future cooperation.
The visit also served as an opportunity to discuss potential support for professional education and training of medical staff, as well as the development of joint healthcare projects.
Director Prof. Dr. Umihanić expressed a strong interest in establishing new and enhancing existing partnerships with healthcare institutions in Sweden, with particular emphasis on the education and training of young doctors currently specializing at UKC Tuzla. He highlighted the importance of knowledge exchange, professional development, and staff mobility as key components of meaningful international cooperation.
In this context, Director Umihanić also asked Ambassador Lagerlöf to provide information on available Swedish funding opportunities and potential project calls that could support UKC Tuzla’s development initiatives. These include current plans focused on improving infrastructure through projects such as the installation of solar panels and enhancing energy efficiency across the institution.
Ambassador Lagerlöf expressed her appreciation for the constructive and forward-looking nature of the meeting, reaffirming the Embassy of Sweden’s openness to continued dialogue and cooperation. She welcomed the specific proposals presented by the UKC Tuzla leadership, noting that they provide a strong basis for the development of new partnerships and the strengthening of existing ties between Bosnia and Herzegovina and Sweden in the healthcare sector.
