The Government of Tuzla Canton has allocated approximately 1.4 million KM over the past year for the purchase of state-of-the-art medical equipment for the Clinic for Ear, Nose and Throat Diseases and Head and Neck Surgery at the University Clinical Center Tuzla (UKC Tuzla). This investment has enabled the procurement of devices that significantly enhance diagnostic capabilities and patient care, further advancing the modernization of one of the most respected healthcare institutions in the region.
“The equipment has mostly been delivered and installed at the clinic. Particularly important for us is the procurement of intraoperative neuromonitoring and a neuronavigation system, as well as a new operating table and surgical lamps. In addition, new devices for the audiology cabinet, including an audiometer and tympanometer, will greatly improve our work. The modernization of the clinic will continue in the coming year, in line with the clinic’s needs and development plans,” said Kadrija Mešić, Acting Head of the Procurement Service at UKC Tuzla.
Prof. Dr. Fuad Brkić, specialist in otolaryngology and subspecialist audiologist, highlighted the development path of the Clinic for Ear, Nose and Throat Diseases and Head and Neck Surgery, emphasizing that in recent years the clinic has significantly advanced the quality of healthcare it provides. “We follow international gold standards and strive to continuously align with professional recommendations. Functional endoscopic sinus surgery has been performed at our clinic for more than 20 years, while next year marks the 25th anniversary of the first cochlear implantation. We are also recognized in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the wider region for our expertise in laryngeal and thyroid surgery. In addition, postoperative rehabilitation, as well as audiological and phoniatric treatments, are carried out at a highly professional level,” said Prof. Brkić.
He stressed the importance of the newly acquired medical equipment for the clinic’s daily operations: “Each new device eases the work of our teams and significantly contributes to faster and better postoperative recovery of patients. This represents a true step forward in the quality of our diagnostic and surgical procedures.”
Alongside the procurement of modern equipment, infrastructure upgrades are also being implemented. “We have replaced the floors, renovated patient rooms, bathrooms, and suites, and placed special focus on reducing waiting lists for diagnostic and surgical procedures. Of course, there is always room for improvement, but everything achieved so far represents a major step forward for our clinic,” added Prof. Dr. Fuad Brkić.
The management of the University Clinical Center Tuzla remains committed to setting an example of high-quality patient care, while at the same time improving working conditions for medical staff.
Commenting on the importance of these investments, Prof. Dr. Šekib Umihanić, Director of the University Clinical Center Tuzla, stated: “Investments in medical equipment and infrastructure are crucial for the continued development of the University Clinical Center Tuzla as a leading provider of tertiary healthcare. The support of the Government of Tuzla Canton is of exceptional significance, and the Clinic for Ear, Nose and Throat Diseases and Head and Neck Surgery is a clear example of how a responsible approach and professional dedication can deliver measurable results that directly benefit our patients.”
