Ramiz Salkić, member of the National Assembly of Republika Srpska, visited the University Clinical Center Tuzla (UKC Tuzla), where he met with Director Prof. Dr. Šekib Umihanić. The discussion emphasized the vital role of UKC Tuzla in providing healthcare services to returnees in Republika Srpska, as well as the institution’s exceptional importance during the annual commemoration of July 11, the Day of Remembrance of the Srebrenica Genocide.
Director Umihanić reminded that the treatment of returnees is financed through budget transfers from the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, via the Federal Ministry of Health and the Health Insurance and Reinsurance Institute of FBiH. Although the allocated funds remain insufficient to cover actual costs, a concern UKC Tuzla has repeatedly raised with relevant authorities, the provision of healthcare services to returnees in RS has never been interrupted.
Salkić particularly emphasized the contribution of UKC Tuzla doctors within the EMMAUS Clinic in Potočari, where free specialist examinations are regularly provided and available to all citizens. He also noted the important role played by UKC Tuzla medical teams in delivering healthcare services during the annual commemoration of July 11, the Day of Remembrance of the Srebrenica Genocide, when large numbers of people from around the world gather in Potočari.
“With their professional commitment and the quality of services they provide, UKC Tuzla demonstrates that humanity and professionalism go beyond administrative responsibilities. Returnees largely gravitate toward Tuzla Canton, and the support they receive from its institutions is crucial for sustainable return and a normal life. This is why UKC Tuzla, as the leading healthcare institution in the region, enjoys great trust and represents an invaluable support to returnees in exercising their right to healthcare,” said Ramiz Salkić.
The significance of these efforts was also acknowledged by the Municipality of Srebrenica, which awarded UKC Tuzla one of its highest honors, the Municipal Plaque, presented to Director Prof. Dr. Šekib Umihanić on the occasion of the Day of the Municipality of Srebrenica.
“Despite all challenges, UKC Tuzla will continue to support returnees and provide healthcare services. At the same time, we call on the relevant institutions to ensure stable funding, so that this important support can be sustained without interruption,” said Director Umihanić.
