The University Clinical Center Tuzla (UKC Tuzla) hosted a workshop dedicated to the use of artificial intelligence in medicine. The program, structured into seven modules, was designed to provide healthcare professionals with a comprehensive understanding of artificial intelligence and its medical applications.
The main objective of the workshop was to explore current and future uses of AI in medical practice. Participants were introduced to the potential of artificial intelligence in diagnostics and personalized therapy, as well as its role in automating administrative processes. Special emphasis was placed on the ethical application of AI, alongside gaining a solid understanding of the fundamental concepts of artificial intelligence and its integration into modern medicine.
According to the workshop leader and coordinator, Prof. Dr. Goran Krdžalić, the advantages of using artificial intelligence in medicine lie in its ability to enable faster diagnostics, more precise treatments, shorter waiting lists, and greater certainty in clinical decision-making. Beyond these benefits for physicians, Prof. Dr. Krdžalić also emphasized the broader advantages for the healthcare system: cost savings, increased transparency, and modernization, factors that enhance the reputation for excellence of any medical center that implements such technologies.
He added that participants in the workshop were also introduced to AI tools designed to foster critical thinking about the ethical, legal, and social implications of applying artificial intelligence in medicine.
The workshop lecturer was Dr. Ali Abd Almisreb, Associate Professor at the International University of Sarajevo and the International University of Information Technologies in Kazakhstan. Dr. Almisreb holds a PhD in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Technology MARA in Malaysia, with expertise in artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, and quantum computing.
In addition to Dr. Almisreb, the workshop featured several other distinguished lecturers: Enes Hukić, Software engineer with more than 25 years of professional experience in the IT industry, Adnan Lugavić, Electrical engineer and member of the PersonifyHealth team, working as a Medior Software Engineer developing advanced AI solutions in healthcare, and Jasmin Hasančević, Director of ICC-Education.
