Organized by the Public Health Institution University Clinical Center Tuzla (UKC Tuzla) in cooperation with the Medical Chamber of the Tuzla Canton, the Cardiac Ultrasound Course, which has been held continuously since 2003, officially began on January 26 and will run until February 26, 2026.
The course is taking place at the Clinic for Internal Medicine of the UKC Tuzla and brings together physicians from the Tuzla Canton as well as from other parts of Bosnia and Herzegovina. This educational program once again confirms the role of the UKC Tuzla as a regional leader not only in patient care and treatment, but also in the fields of science, scientific research, and the continuous professional development of healthcare professionals.
Speaking about the importance of continuous medical education, Prof. Dr. Ervin Alibegović, Assistant Director for Teaching and Scientific Research of the University Clinical Center Tuzla, emphasized that twelve different educational programs are continuously implemented at UKC Tuzla, with strong support from the institution’s management.
He highlighted that UKC Tuzla, in cooperation with the Medical Chamber of the Tuzla Canton, provides all necessary conditions for the successful implementation of these programs, which are characterized by exceptional quality and are considered among the best in the region.
“The University Clinical Center Tuzla is strongly committed to the development of science and continuous professional education. We extend our special gratitude to the Director of the UKC Tuzla, Prof. Dr. Šekib Umihanić, for his ongoing support in strengthening and advancing the Scientific Research Sector,” said Prof. Dr. Ervin Alibegović, adding that investment in knowledge represents a long-term investment in the quality and safety of healthcare services.
According to Assoc. Prof. Dr. Elnur Smajić, Head of the Clinic for Internal Medicine and Course Director, the cardiac ultrasound course, held continuously since 2003,aims to equip participants with the knowledge and skills necessary for independent, high- quality work in the field of echocardiography. He emphasized that the majority of lecturers are experts from the UKC Tuzla, complemented by carefully selected guest lecturers from other healthcare institutions across Bosnia and Herzegovina, ensuring that the educational content meets the highest professional standards.
“Cardiac ultrasound is a complex diagnostic method that requires extensive knowledge, clinical experience, and practical skills. Our goal is to provide participants with practical, applicable knowledge that can be immediately implemented in everyday clinical practice,” said Assoc. Prof. Dr. Smajić, noting that the course is conducted with the full support of the management of the UKC Tuzla and in close cooperation with the Medical Chamber of the Tuzla Canton.
The opening of the course was also attended by Prof. Dr. Lejla Mešalić, President of the Medical Chamber of the Tuzla Canton, who emphasized that the launch of the cardiac ultrasound course represents another significant step toward strengthening the professional education of healthcare workers. She expressed particular satisfaction with the participation of specialist physicians from other parts of Bosnia and Herzegovina, highlighting the growing regional recognition of this educational program. Prof. Dr. Mešalić also reminded that the Medical Chamber of the Tuzla Canton continuously organizes a wide range of educational courses, with a special focus on ultrasonography. “Thanks to the teaching facilities of the University Clinical Center Tuzla and the Tuzla Health Center, modern equipment, and highly qualified lecturers, we are able to provide high- quality education to participants in their own professional environment,” emphasized Prof. Dr. Mešalić, adding that this approach eliminates the need for training abroad, separation from family, and additional financial burdens.
