Following the recent successful performance of a laparoscopic splenectomy, the surgical team at the Clinic of Surgery of the University Clinical Center Tuzla (UKC Tuzla) has achieved another significant milestone by successfully performing a laparoscopic gastrectomy.
Laparoscopic gastrectomy as a highly complex minimally invasive procedure was carried out on a patient diagnosed with a gastric tumor.
The operation was led by Prof. Dr. Zlatan Mehmedović, with the participation of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Maja Kovačević, and residents Dr. Tarik Obašić and Dr. Emir Alić. A significant contribution to the successful outcome was also made by the anesthesiology team, scrub nurses, operating room technicians, and the entire staff of the Clinic of Surgery.
“The laparoscopic gastrectomy was performed only one month after the successful laparoscopic splenectomy, further confirming the continuity in the introduction and advancement of minimally invasive procedures at the Clinic of Surgery. This approach enables faster patient recovery, reduced postoperative pain, shorter hospital stays, and an earlier return to everyday activities, which are among the fundamental goals of modern surgery,” emphasized the Head of the Clinic of Surgery, Prof. Dr. Zlatan Mehmedović.
Committed to providing the highest quality and safest healthcare, the Clinic of Surgery of the UKC Tuzla continues to strengthen its professional capacities, introduce new surgical techniques, and further advance the range of services available to its patients.
