Organization of Care for the Injured and Sick at the University Clinical Center Tuzla (1992–1995)
Institutional Commemoration of the Genocide Against Bosniaks During the Aggression Against the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina
The Public Health Institution University Clinical Center Tuzla, in cooperation with its partners, is organizing a scientific and professional symposium entitled “Organization of Care for the Injured and Sick at the University Clinical Center Tuzla (1992–1995)- Institutional Commemoration of the Genocide Against Bosniaks During the Aggression Against the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina.”
The symposium will be held on July 8, 2026, beginning at 4:30 p.m., at the Hotel Mellain in Tuzla.
The primary objective of the symposium is to document, scientifically examine, and present the experiences of healthcare professionals and healthcare institutions during the aggression against the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina from 1992 to 1995, with particular emphasis on the organization of healthcare services and the treatment of a large number of injured and ill patients at the University Clinical Center Tuzla.
The symposium carries significant scientific, professional, and societal importance. In addition to contributing to the preservation and scholarly interpretation of historical facts concerning the functioning of the healthcare system under wartime conditions, it represents an important component of the institutional commemoration of the genocide committed against Bosniaks during the aggression against the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Through expert lectures, testimonies of healthcare professionals who directly participated in wartime medical care, and the presentation of relevant historical documentation, the symposium will preserve the memory of the extraordinary dedication, professionalism, and humanitarian commitment demonstrated by healthcare workers who, despite extremely difficult circumstances and limited resources, ensured uninterrupted medical care for the injured, the sick, and the civilian population.
It is important to emphasize that the University Clinical Center Tuzla has, for several consecutive years, been organizing scientific and professional symposia and other commemorative activities dedicated to the institutional remembrance of the genocide against Bosniaks during the aggression against the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina. These activities contribute significantly to the advancement of scientific and research work, the preservation of historical truth and collective memory, the education of future generations of healthcare professionals, students, and the wider community, as well as the promotion of the fundamental values of humanity, professionalism, solidarity, and responsibility demonstrated under the most challenging historical circumstances.
We cordially invite healthcare professionals, members of the academic community, students, representatives of public institutions, and all interested citizens to attend this important scientific and professional symposium and, through their presence, contribute to preserving the memory of the invaluable role of healthcare workers and the historical events that shaped our society.
