The Medical Physics and Radiation Protection Service was established with the aim to link up services related to th medical physics, radiation safety and protection from ionizing radiation at the University Clinical Center Tuzla. As a self- contained professional non- medical organizational unit it provides support and highly skilled services for all clinical activities (surgical, internal medicine and diagnostics), and it is located at the Radiotherapy clinic.
The working force is consisted of seven medical physicists; three medical physicists have master of science degree, two bachelors of physics, one graduated physicists, and one professor of physics.
ACTIVITIES
• The Department participates in the development of quality assurance programs for all activities involving equipment that produces or uses ionizing radiation, and is responsible for the implementation of the part of the program related to quality control of the aforementioned equipment.
• The Department participates in radiotherapy planning (and is responsible for preparing radiotherapy treatment plans), performs calibration of radiotherapy equipment, and calculates patient doses in diagnostic and interventional radiology and nuclear medicine.
• It participates in the preparation of the Radiation Protection Program for the University Clinical Center Tuzla (the UKC Tuzla), which also includes the development of the Manual for Protection against Ionizing Radiation for the UKC.
• It is responsible for protection against ionizing radiation and radiation safety at the UKC, including education and training in this field.
• The employees of the Department, as authors or co- authors, have published a significant number of scientific and research papers.
