Last week, Professor Dr. Mahmut Tayyar Kalcioglu from Turkey was in a professional visit to the Clinic for Diseases of the Ear, Throat, Nose, and Head and Neck Surgery at the University Clinical Center Tuzla.

During his collaborative engagement with the members of the Tuzla team, Professor Dr. Kalcioglu conducted a tympanoplasty procedure aimed at enhancing the patient’s auditory function by addressing middle ear pathology. It is a microsurgical reconstruction procedure in the middle ear in such a way that the inflammatory tissue is removed, the eardrum is reconstructed, and the chain of auditory ossicles is reconstructed using the patient’s own tissue.

Professor Dr. Kalcioglu has been actively engaged with the Tuzla clinic for twelve years as part of an established collaboration.

“As a commitment to supporting the Tuzla ENT school, I have been visiting Tuzla annually at the request of my colleagues, with the exception of the period during the COVID pandemic. Our meetings serve as valuable opportunities for exchanging experiences and sharing new scientific insights. It is my aspiration that we further enhance our collaboration between our respective institutions and faculties, facilitating the exchange of expertise and acquisition of fresh knowledge,” expressed Professor Dr. Kalcioglu.

“Professor Dr. Mahmut Tayyar Kalcioglu was invited by the director of the University Clinical CenterTuzla, Professor Dr. Šekib Umihanić, who emphasized Prof. Dr. Kalcioglu’s pivotal role as a distinguished participant in the ongoing 28th ENT School. Today’s surgical procedure, conducted as part of the practical component, served as an educational opportunity for younger medical colleagues who observed the technique of reconstructing the auditory ossicular chain.

Professor Dr. Umihanić extended gratitude to Professor Dr. Kalcioglu for their past collaboration and expressed a keen interest in expanding cooperation between the healthcare institutions of Tuzla and Istanbul.
