A medical team from the University Clinical Center Tuzla (UKC Tuzla) took part in systematic examinations of children at the Nova Kasaba Educational Center. The team included doctors and speech therapists from the Clinic for Ear, Nose and Throat Diseases and Head and Neck Surgery, specialists from the Clinic for Internal Diseases, the Clinic for Children’s Diseases, as well as dentists from the Živinice Health Center and Tuzla Health Center. The initiative was carried out with the support of the International Humanitarian Society Emmaus.
These examinations have been organized for several years with the goal of preserving and improving the health of children from returnee families, thereby supporting their sustainable reintegration and well-being.
Through these systematic examinations, expert teams ensure the timely detection and treatment of identified health issues. Follow-up care is provided either at the Tuzla Community Center or in local health centers, guaranteeing that children receive professional, continuous, and high-quality health services.
The Association of Primary School Directors of Tuzla Canton also joined this humanitarian initiative. Its representatives brought gifts prepared by students from schools across Tuzla Canton, a gesture that brought great joy to the children of the Educational Center.
The Director of the University Clinical Center Tuzla, Prof. Dr. Šekib Umihanić, highlighted the significance of these activities: “Systematic examinations of children in Nova Kasaba and the wider Podrinje region are a clear example of how concrete actions and our support contribute to sustainable return. For several years now, these examinations have ensured that health problems are detected early and that children receive further treatment either at UKC Tuzla or in health centers across Tuzla Canton. In doing so, we send a strong message to parents that they are not alone, and that their children have access to professional, continuous, and high-quality healthcare. Initiatives like this build trust and create the conditions for families to remain and build their future in this area.”
