Upon receiving information about the fire that occurred last night, November 4, 2025, at the Tuzla Retirement Home, the staff and all available resources of the University Clinical Center Tuzla were immediately placed on special alert and made available for emergency response.
In addition to the regular on- duty teams, additional medical staff were called in and promptly reported to their workplaces to assist in providing care.
During the night, twenty patients were admitted to the Clinic for Pulmonary Diseases, including three police officers, six firefighters, and several residents and employees of the Tuzla Retirement Home. Unfortunately, one patient passed away during the night at this clinic.
According to the report from the Clinic for Anesthesiology and Resuscitation, eight patients were admitted, five of whom are currently on ventilatory support and in critical condition. Sadly, one patient has succumbed to their injuries.
In the hospitalized patients, inhalation injuries caused by the inhalation of smoke and harmful combustion products were diagnosed.
Currently, two patients are being treated at the Clinic for Internal Diseases.
Medical staff and the heads of the Clinic for Pulmonary Diseases, the Clinic for Anesthesiology and Resuscitation, and the Clinic for Internal Diseases were all actively involved in the care and monitoring of the admitted patients.
The University Clinical Center Tuzla has made all its available capacities accessible for the hospitalization of patients who may experience deterioration in their underlying health conditions, chronic diseases, or comorbidities, as well as for accommodating residents of the Tuzla Retirement Home should they lack adequate housing in the aftermath of the incident. Temporary accommodation will also be provided if deemed necessary until an appropriate long- term solution is found.
Once again, the University Clinical Center Tuzla has demonstrated a high level of readiness, professionalism, and dedication. We extend our sincere gratitude to all staff members who responded swiftly, and we reaffirm our continued commitment to serving the citizens of Tuzla Canton.
