A total of 37 babies were born at the Clinic for Gynecology and Obstetrics of the University Clinical Center Tuzla (UKC Tuzla) last weekend.
Although the Clinic has recorded a downward trend in the number of births over the past five years, this trend was slightly reversed in 2025, bringing encouraging signs for the beginning of the year.
According to the Head of the Clinic for Gynecology and Obstetrics of UKC Tuzla, Prim. Dr. Adnan Babović, 37 newborns were delivered in the maternity ward over the weekend, 13 girls and 24 boys. He emphasized that this positive news is accompanied by the completion of final works on the first phase of the reconstruction and adaptation of the maternity ward. These improvements are expected to significantly enhance conditions for mothers and newborns, ensuring a safer and more comfortable environment for childbirth and postnatal care.
“With the implementation of the first phase of the project, the Clinic for Gynecology and Obstetrics will gain a modern 700 m² facility designed to accommodate 30 women in labor, ensuring a higher level of privacy and comfort. A total of 15 fully equipped sanitary units with shower cabins have been constructed, serving three single, eight double, and four triple rooms. Preparations are currently underway for the launch of the second phase of the project, which includes the reconstruction of the delivery rooms and the neonatal unit. This phase will provide a significantly more functional and modern space, further improving the quality of healthcare and raising the standards of care for women in labor throughout Tuzla Canton,” said Prim. Dr. Babović.
