On the occasion of the Independence Day of Bosnia and Herzegovina, a commemorative ceremony was held at the Public Health Institution University Clinical Center Tuzla to honor this significant national date.
Delegations of the University Clinical Center Tuzla and the Association of Demobilized Fighters of Public Health Institutions of Tuzla Canton laid flowers at the memorial site within the grounds of UKC Tuzla, paying tribute to fallen soldiers and civilian victims of the war.
On this occasion, the Director of the University Clinical Center Tuzla, Prof. Dr. Šekib Umihanić, extended his congratulations to all citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as to the employees of the institution. He emphasized the importance of commemorating March 1 as a symbol of the citizens’ determination to build and preserve a sovereign, unified, and indivisible state founded on the principles of equality, tolerance, and solidarity.
“Today, more than ever, we are obliged to preserve and strengthen the foundations of our independence by working together to build a prosperous and secure future for all citizens. I would like to express special gratitude to our employees who are demobilized fighters and who devoted part of their lives to the defense of our homeland, making an immeasurable contribution to its freedom and development. During the war, doctors and medical staff provided invaluable support not only to the defenders but also to the civilian population. I am proud that at UKC Tuzla we traditionally commemorate this important date, preserving the memory of the fallen fighters and civilian victims of the war,” emphasized Prof. Umihanić.
The ceremony concluded with the symbolic planting of tree seedlings in the park of the University Clinical Center Tuzla. The planting was carried out by students of the BoHeMSA from the Faculty of Medicine, University of Tuzla, who expressed their gratitude to the Director of the UKC Tuzla, Prof. Dr. Šekib Umihanić, for the opportunity to participate in this meaningful initiative.
“By symbolically planting a tree, we conveyed the message that, just as it takes root and grows, so too does our homeland grow stronger through unity, dedicated work, and responsibility toward future generations,” emphasized the representatives of the BoHeMSA Association.
The University Clinical Center Tuzla will continue to nurture a culture of remembrance and to commemorate significant dates in the history of Bosnia and Herzegovina in the period ahead.
