Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mirjan Nadrljanski from the Institute of Oncology and Radiology of Serbia paid an expert visit to the Clinic for Radiology and Nuclear Medicine of the University Clinical Center Tuzla.
During his visit, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nadrljanski delivered a series of educational lectures in the field of spectral contrast mammography. In collaboration with Danka Milanović, a senior radiological technologist from the same institution, practical training was also conducted, demonstrating the application of this advanced diagnostic procedure.
Contrast- enhanced mammography represents a modern diagnostic method in the detection of breast cancer. The examination procedure is similar to standard mammography, with the addition of an iodinated, non-ionic intravenous contrast agent, which significantly improves diagnostic accuracy.
According to the Head of the Clinic for Radiology and Nuclear Medicine, Prof. Dr. Svjetlana Mujagić, this diagnostic method does not substantially differ from conventional mammography; however, the use of an iodine-based contrast agent enables improved visualization and more precise analysis of pathologically altered breast tissue.
“Following the acquisition of a new digital mammography system, in addition to standard digital mammography, we plan to introduce advanced diagnostic methods that will enhance breast cancer detection. Contrast-enhanced mammography will allow for more precise diagnostics, particularly in cases where malignancies are not clearly visible using conventional mammographic techniques.
Alongside the procurement of modern equipment and the implementation of new diagnostic methods, we are continuously investing in the education and professional development of our staff,” emphasized Prof. Dr. Mujagić.
With the support of the management, our Clinical Center continuously engages distinguished professors and educators, recognized experts in their respective fields, in order to provide as many employees as possible with access to high-quality professional education.
Currently, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mirjan Nadrljanski, a specialist in radiology and subspecialist in oncology from the Institute of Oncology and Radiology in Belgrade, is on a professional visit to the Clinic for Radiology and Nuclear Medicine. During a two- day workshop, he is introducing our physicians and radiological engineers to the method of spectral contrast mammography.
“In the coming period, we plan to further strengthen our cooperation with Prof. Dr. Nadrljanski, including the introduction of biopsy procedures under mammographic guidance,” emphasized the Head of the Clinic, Prof. Dr. Svjetlana Mujagić.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nadrljanski expressed his satisfaction with the collaboration with the physicians and radiological engineers of the Clinic for Radiology and Nuclear Medicine Tuzla, highlighting their high level of expertise and strong commitment to advanced professional training. He also conveyed his readiness to continue cooperation on future projects.
“The University Clinical Center Tuzla is equipped with a latest-generation mammography system that enables visualization of breast changes based on principles similar to magnetic resonance imaging, representing a significant technological advancement. The concept of comprehensive education, covering 2D and 3D mammography, contrast-enhanced mammography, and biopsy procedures, is focused on the transfer of knowledge through practical application. Particular emphasis is placed on contrast mammography, as well as on biopsy- related procedures, which together ensure a complete and integrated diagnostic approach. During this training, participants underwent theoretical education covering indications, radiological-pathological correlation, and the application of complementary imaging methods, including magnetic resonance imaging and contrast mammography. This was followed by a practical component involving group work, interactive discussions, and diagnostic evaluation of selected clinical cases,” stated Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nadrljanski.
