Organized by the Clinic for Ear, Nose, Throat and Head and Neck Surgery of the University Clinical Center Tuzla, the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Tuzla, and the Association of Tracheotomized Persons Tuzla, the jubilee 30th Tuzla ENT School was held from 21 to 23 May 2026. The event was held under the patronage of the Assembly and Government of Tuzla Canton, with the Medical Chamber of Tuzla Canton serving as co- organizer.
This year’s ENT School gathered eminent experts in the field of otorhinolaryngology from Tűrkiye, Austria, England, Serbia, Montenegro and Slovenia, together with numerous specialists from Bosnia and Herzegovina.
According to the Head of the Clinic for Ear, Nose, Throat and Head and Neck Surgery at the University Clinical Center Tuzla, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Majda Mujić, the meeting was organized not only to exchange experiences and present the latest achievements in otorhinolaryngology, but also to mark several important anniversaries. “Today, we celebrate 30 years since the establishment and successful work of the Tuzla ENT School, 45 years since the founding of the ENT Department at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Tuzla, and 25 years since the first cochlear implant was performed at our Clinic,” said Dr. Mujić.
The President of the Organizing Committee of the 30th Tuzla ENT School, Prof. Dr. Fuad Brkić, emphasized the great importance of continuous professional education for both physicians and nurses. “This year, as in previous years, we have welcomed a large number of distinguished invited lecturers who will enrich the scientific and professional programme with their knowledge and experience, enabling a valuable exchange of new ideas and advances in the field of otorhinolaryngology,” said Prof. Brkić.
The University Clinical Center Tuzla places strong emphasis on the organization of scientific and professional conferences with the aim of advancing continuous medical education and improving healthcare services.
According to the Director of the University Clinical Center Tuzla, Prof. Dr. Šekib Umihanić, several high- quality professional meetings and congresses have been organized over the past month. In addition to the Clinic for Ear, Nose, Throat and Head and Neck Surgery, important scientific and professional events were also organized by the Clinic for Surgery, the Clinic for Anesthesiology and Reanimatology, the Clinic for Neurology, and the Clinic for Radiology and Nuclear Medicine. “During the past month, Tuzla hosted more than a thousand eminent lecturers and participants from the country and abroad. In June, we will also organize an international scientific and professional symposium in the field of oncology, all with the goal of ensuring top- quality healthcare for our patients,” emphasized Director Umihanić.
As part of this year’s Tuzla ENT School, two bilateral cochlear implant surgeries were successfully performed at the Clinic for Ear, Nose, Throat and Head and Neck Surgery, along with the first two endoscopic ear surgeries carried out at the Clinic.
The procedures were performed by teams from the Clinic for Ear, Nose, Throat and Head and Neck Surgery led by Prof. Dr. Šekib Umihanić, in cooperation with distinguished colleagues from Tűrkiye, Prof. Dr. Mahmut Tayyar Kalcıoğlu and Serdal Çelik from Istanbul.
