The department activities involve diagnosis and treatment of: ear diseases (inflammation, tumors, hearing impairment), diseases of the nose and nasal cavities, diseases of the pharynx and larynx (tonsilitis, congenital and acquired anomalies, malignant diseases). The diagnostic process includes: ENT examination, ultrasound of the neck, rhinomanometry, videostroboscopy, fiberoptic- endonasal examination. Following diagnosis and depending on the patient’s condition, conservative medication or surgical treatment and management of the disease may be used. Functional endoscopic sinus surgery (FESS) is minimally invasive surgery for serious sinus conditions. Health professionals from the Clinic are well- trained and qualified to carry out a wide range of ENT surgeries.

The department for rhinosinusology deals with the diagnosis and surgical treatment of the nose and paranasal sinuses diseases.

The diagnostic process includes: rhinomanometry and fiberoptic- endonasal examination.

DEPARTMENT FOR HEAD AND NECK TUMORS

The department deals with the diagnosis and surgical treatment of patient suffering from head and neck tumors.

The diagnostic process includes:

  • Ultrasound of the neck

  • Videostroboscopy

  • Directoscopy

  • Tracheoscopy

  • Fibeoptic endonasal examinations

  • Epipharyngoscopy

  • Biopsy of suspected tumor tissue for pathohistological analysis

Surgical procedures:

  • Laryngomicroscopy with biopsy

  • Esophagoscopy with possible biopsy

  • Epipharyngoscopy with epipharyngeal tumor biopsy

  • Complex surgeries of the neck (tumor biopsy, lymph node biopsy, tumor extirpation, lymph node extirpation, neck dissections- radical/ functional)

  • Surgery of the thyroid gland and parathyroid glands tumors (total thyroidectomy, lobectomy, subtotal thyroidectomy, lobectomy with isthmectomy, extirpation of parathyroid gland/total/ subtotal, the enucleation of the node from the thyroid gland),

  • Surgery of salivary glands malignant tumors (removal of submandibular glands, surgery of the parotid gland tumor/ total parotidectomy)

  • Removal of face and neck skin tumors, primary closure; covering with local rotational flaps, with musculocutaneous flaps (m.pectoralis flap) or covering with free grafts (Tirsh, Woolf),

  • Complex surgery of the oropharynx and hypopharynx (extended tonsillectomy, excision of the oropharynx and hypopharynx tumors)

  • Complex surgery of the hypopharinx and the cervical esophagus malignant tumors (the gastric pull- up surgery)

  • Complex surgery of the larynx (total laryngectomy- supraglottic/ lateral/ frontolateral, cordectomy- simplex and distension),

  • Complex surgery of removing malignant tumors of the nose and paranasal sinuses,

  • Surgery of malignant tumor of the auricle (excision of the ear tumor, a wedge resection of the tumor, semi amputation of the ear, amputation of the ear)

An outpatient clinic for surgery is the part of ENT Clinic designed for the patients who have surgical appointment for ENT interventions under local anesthesia for the purpose of diagnosis or therapy, but do not need to stay overnight. Patients who undergo an outpatient treatment need to have a scheduled outpatient appointment except those patients who require immediate emergency care.

AUDIOLOGY DEPARTMENT

Audiology department performs diagnostic assessments and rehabilitation for people with hearing difficulties: audiometry (tone and speech), tympanometry, examination of acoustic reflexes, the brainstem auditory evoked response testing, the otoacoustic emissions testing and hearing rehabilitation (hearing aids, cohlear implants). Audiology department also provides advanced audiologic and vestibular testing for the patients suffering from vertigo syndrome and tinnitus.

PHONIATRIC DEPARTMENT

Head of the department: Ass. Prof. Almir Salkić, ENT specialist

Phoniatric department provides a great variety of diagnostic, therapeutic and rehabilitation services for patients with speech, language, voice and swallowing disorders: subjective and objective voice analysis (tonsilloadenoidectomy, total thyroidectomy, benign lesions of the vocal cords, total and partial laryngectomies, neurological and functional dysphonia), determining the articulation-language status using appropriate tests in a patient with dyslalia, stuttering, dysphasia, insufficient speech language development, determining the ability to swallow using appropriate tests (oropharyngeal dysphagia), and rehabilitation of speech, speech prostheses, voice and swallowing.
