The department of anesthesia and resuscitation has existed in Tuzla since 1975. After restructuring and some major changes in the health care system the department became the clinic.

The employees of the Clinic for Anaesthesia and Resuscitation are involved in all medical procedures and activities that have been carried out in the University Clinical Center Tuzla 24 hours every day. In addition to their everyday work in operating rooms and intensive care units, they are members of the multidisciplinary teams and they provide anaesthesia services for the Clinic for Radiology and Nuclear Medicine, the Clinic for Gynecology and Obstetrics, the endoscopy and bronchoscopy cabinets of the Clinic for Internal Medicine and the Clinic for Pulmonary Dieases.

To be on the cutting edge of anaesthesiology research, best practice, and hands-on learning experiences, anaesthesiologists from the Clinic are often active participants at congresses, conferences and meetings in anaesthesia and intensive care around the world. The clinic is educational and academic base for the Faculty of Medicine, University of Tuzla for subjects “Emergency medicine” and “General principles of health care”. Our clinic is a space for theoretical and practical training for residents. Monthly seminars promoting and covering anaesthesia topics that follow residency curriculum are regularly held. Ethical practice and principles in anaesthesia is an absolutely highlighted in all activities.

The Clinic for Anaesthesia and Resuscitation is consisted of anaesthesia polyclinic, 3 departments and 3 divisions. Our employees provide services of general and regional anaesthesia for 25 operating rooms and all surgical disciplines with approximately 13000 anaesthesias annual. The Intensive Care Union has 30 hospital beds with an annual number of between 700- 800 patients. About 19 000 patients a year are being on preoprative evaluation in the specialist anaesthesia clinic.

An outpatient ambulance is the first meeting point of patient with health professionals. Working hours are from Monday to Friday 8 a.m.- 4 p.m.

An anesthesiologists will talk to patients beforehand to explain the anaesthetic methods, possible side effects etc.

An Informed Consent for anaesthesia may sign an adult patient or a parent or legal guardian.

Ambulance for pain management

Ambulance facility is being prepared for opening. It will focus on the diagnosis and management of acute and non- cancer related chronic pain.

  • The department of anaesthesia provides general and regional anaesthesia services in 25 operating rooms for all surgical disciplines (pediatric surgery, neurosurgery, urology, thoracic surgery, abdominal surgery, orthopedy and trauma, plastic and reconstructive surgery, gyn/ obs surgery, ENT surgery, ophtalmic surgery) and monitoring of vitally endangered patients during diagnostic procedures CT scan, X- ray, MRI, ERCP, bronchoscopy, gastroscopy, colonoscopy).

  • Each of these surgery branches require a highly trained and skilled anaesthesiologists

  • The department also provides services for an outpatient surgeries

  • The department deals with all life-threatening conditions as well as postoperative conditions after major and challenging surgeries

  • Polytrauma, shock trauma, spinal injuries with neurological deficit and spinal shock

  • Treatment of complications in traumatized patients such as acute and chronic respiratory insufficiency, ARDS, acute renal insufficiency, thromboembolic complications

  • Metabolic and endocrine disorders and nosocomial infections

  • Patients after complicated and difficult gyn/ obs surgeries

  • Patients with respiratory insufficiency demanding artificial respiration program

  • Hemodynamic monitoring of critically ill patients in the critical care setting
