The department with ten hospital beds offers diagnostics and therapy for patients with rheumatic diseases who are in need for rehabilitation:

The department deals with rehabilitation of patients with neurological disorders. The team of health professionals from the department consists of specialist in physical medicine and rehabilitation, speech therapists and somatopedist, special education and rehabilitation therapists, physiotherapists, nurses/ technicians and psychologist. The team provide treatment and rehabilitation of patients after:

  • stroke

  • cranio trauma; surgery of blood vessels of the brain

  • patients with Parkinson’s disease

  • patients with multiple sclerosis

  • polyneuropathies of various causes

  • polyradiculoneuritis

  • patients with rare neurological diseases

  • adult patients with cerebral palsy

  • patients with neuromuscular and other neurological diseases

Health professionals from the department offer modern kinesiotherapy procedures in neurological rehabilitation (Bobath, PNF), as well as other modalities of rehabilitation following diagnosis, neurological and other clinical findings ( hydrotherapy, electrotherapy, LASER). The education of patients and their families is a significant part of everyday workflow at the department.

  1. Rehabilitation of patients after orthopedic and conservative treatments on the locomotor apparatus and spinal column and includes:

    – post traumatic conditions of the locomotor apparatus

    – conditions after disc herniation surgery and hip and knee joint replacement surgery

– conditions after surgery with osteosynthetic material in the treatment of thoracic or lumbar spinal injuries

  1. rehabilitation of patients after neurosurgeries on the brain, spinal column and peripheral nerves

The department for rehabilitation of children has 10 hospital beds aimed for early rehabilitation of children who are referred from other clinics or the primary health care. Our task is to improve the abilities of children following major injury, illness or surgical procedures which affect their function.

The department has 10 hospital beds and provides interdisciplinary rehabilitation program in patients with injuries of the spine and spinal cord. Our expert team of health professionals is consisted of specialists in physical medicine and rehabilitation, physiotherapists, nurses/ technicians, somatopedist and occupational therapist.

The plan of rehabilitation includes:

  • prevention of respiratory complications

  • prevention of deep vein thrombosis

  • prevention of joint contracture

  • skin care

  • selective muscle strengthening

  • early self- care activities

  • verticalization

  • early mobility in bed

  • patient and their family education

  • assessment of the condition of the lower part of the urogenital tract through urodynamic examination

A specialized team for early rehabilitation of inpatients is composed of physical medicine and rehabilitation doctors, consultants of other specialties and team of skilled physiotherapists. The main task of health professionals from the department is to include inpatients from the University Clinical Center Tuzla in early rehabilitation treatment as soon as it is proposed as a potential treatment, as well as planning further rehabilitation program after hospital discharge.

The Department for Prosthetics and Orthotics was established in 1994 with the support of the French humanitarian organization “Handicap International”. Within the department is the Center for education of orthotists and prosthetists. Generous support for educational programs for orthotists and prosthetists at the University Clinical Center Tuzla was provided by the International Center for Rehabilitation of Chicago.

The Department deals with outpatients:

  • Modeling and creating upper limb prostheses (functional and aesthetic)

  • Modeling and creating lower limb prostheses (exoskeletal and endoskeletal)

  • Creating upper and lower limb orthoses

  • Creating thoraco- lumbo- sacral orthoses TLSO, orthoses for pectus

  • Creating printed foot insoles

  • Rehabilitation of persons with limb amputation, trunk and limb deformities, rehabilitation of neurological, rheumatological, surgical, and orthopedic trauma patients who use orthotic aids
