Dr. Salkanovi\u0107 Delibegovi\u0107 Sabina, a pediatrician and neuropediatrics sub- specialist, presented on the topic \u201cTreatment of Spinal Muscular Atrophy in Early Childhood.\u201d Dr. Salkanovi\u0107 Delibegovi\u0107 emphasized that SMA is a hereditary neuromuscular disorder marked by the degeneration of lower motor neurons, affecting approximately 1 in 10,000 newborns annually. If left untreated, SMA can be fatal within the first two years of life.<\/p>\n
Given that spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) is a rare pediatric disease, educating healthcare professionals, patient families, and the general public about its nature, diagnosis, and treatment is essential. Recently, there has been growing professional interest in advancing research focused on SMA treatment and assessing the quality of life for affected children.<\/p>\n
