Under the mentorship of Dr. Novak Jovanovi\u0107, specialist in orthopedics and traumatology from Kragujevac, the surgical team successfully performed six arthroscopic procedures, thereby introducing new techniques in endoscopic shoulder surgery at the clinic.<\/p>\n
Dr. Jovanovi\u0107 has gained extensive professional experience in the field of arthroscopy through advanced training in Germany, Denmark, Slovenia, Spain, and Portugal. According to Dr. Jovanovi\u0107, reverse total shoulder arthroplasty is a surgical procedure in which a damaged shoulder joint is replaced with an artificial implant. This advanced technique is being introduced at the University Clinical Center Tuzla for the first time.<\/p>\n
“Reverse shoulder arthroplasty utilizes a specially designed implant in which the normal anatomy of the shoulder joint is reversed, enabling restoration of joint stability and function, particularly in patients with complex shoulder conditions,” explained Dr. Jovanovi\u0107. He emphasized that the benefits for patients are substantial, as severe pain and limited mobility caused by shoulder disorders can be significantly reduced or completely eliminated following surgery. Rehabilitation begins immediately after the procedure, and patients are usually discharged home the same day or within 24 hours, with a prescribed physical therapy program. Full functional recovery is generally expected within three months after surgery.<\/p>\n
Dr. Mirza Avdi\u0107, Head of the Department of Septic Orthopedics at the Clinic for Orthopedics and Traumatology of the University Clinical Center Tuzla, who performed these procedures together with Dr. Jovanovi\u0107, explained that arthroscopic surgery is carried out using an arthroscope, an advanced instrument equipped with a miniature camera.<\/p>\n
“Through several small skin incisions, the arthroscopic camera allows the surgeon to precisely visualize pathological changes within the shoulder joint. Using specialized surgical instruments and implant materials, the damaged structures are reconstructed or repaired, while the surrounding healthy tissue remains largely unaffected. This minimally invasive approach significantly reduces postoperative pain, enables earlier rehabilitation, and shortens the overall recovery period,” emphasized Dr. Avdi\u0107.<\/p>\n
