The University Clinical Center Tuzla (UKC Tuzla) marked World Thyroid Day through a series of expert lectures dedicated to raising awareness about thyroid diseases, their prevention, timely diagnosis and treatment.<\/p>\n
The professional meeting was organized by the Clinic for Ear, Nose and Throat Diseases and Head and Neck Surgery, the Clinic for Radiology and Nuclear Medicine, the Association of Thyroid Patients “\u0160tit”, and the Association of ENT School Tuzla.<\/p>\n
World Thyroid Day has been observed every year on May 25 since 2007 and represents an important global initiative aimed at educating the public about thyroid health and the importance of early detection of thyroid disorders.<\/p>\n
During the lectures, special attention was given to the most common thyroid diseases and their symptoms. Hypothyroidism occurs when the thyroid gland does not produce sufficient amounts of hormones, which may lead to fatigue, depression, forgetfulness, irregular menstrual cycles and weight gain.<\/p>\n
On the other hand, hyperthyroidism develops when the thyroid gland produces excessive amounts of hormones, causing symptoms such as irritability, nervousness, muscle weakness, unexplained weight loss, sleep disturbances, vision problems and eye irritation.<\/p>\n
According to the Acting Head of the Clinic for Ear, Nose and Throat Diseases and Head and Neck Surgery, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Majida Muji\u0107, this year\u2019s World Thyroid Day slogan is \u201cThe Power of Togetherness.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cThrough two expert lectures delivered by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Belkisa Izi\u0107 and Dr. Azra Ibri\u0161evi\u0107, we will address thyroid diseases, diagnostics and imaging modalities from the perspectives of our two clinics,\u201d said Dr. Muji\u0107.<\/p>\n
The Head of the Clinic for Radiology and Nuclear Medicine, Prof. Dr. Svjetlana Mujagi\u0107, emphasized the importance of joint efforts in raising awareness among patients.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe Department of Nuclear Medicine within the Clinic for Radiology and Nuclear Medicine is often the first place where patients are directly confronted with this diagnosis. What is especially important is the multidisciplinary cooperation between our two clinics, as well as the comprehensive diagnostic, therapeutic and follow- up approach provided to all patients.
