The Director of the Public Health Institution University Clinical Center Tuzla (UKC Tuzla), Prof. Dr. \u0160ekib Umihani\u0107, hosted a working meeting and reception for sixteen medical students from ten countries who are currently undertaking clinical and research internships at UKC Tuzla as part of an international student exchange program.<\/p>\n
The students’ placement at UKC Tuzla is organized under the Memorandum of Cooperation between the Public Health Institution UKC Tuzla and the Association of Medical Students in Bosnia and Herzegovina \u2013 BoHeMSA LC Tuzla, which operates at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Tuzla. The cooperation aims to provide international medical students with high-quality clinical training and research opportunities while promoting international academic collaboration and cultural exchange.<\/p>\n
The exchange is carried out through the SCOPE (Standing Committee on Professional Exchange) and SCORE (Standing Committee on Research Exchange) programs, which are coordinated by the International Federation of Medical Students’ Associations (IFMSA).<\/p>\n
This summer, UKC Tuzla is hosting sixteen medical students from Spain, Italy, Ukraine, T\u00fcrkiye, Slovakia, Russia, Greece, Switzerland, Mexico, and Brazil.<\/p>\n
During the meeting, Prof. Dr. Umihani\u0107 introduced the students to the organizational structure and activities of UKC Tuzla, highlighting the institution's role as one of the leading tertiary healthcare and teaching centers in Bosnia and Herzegovina. He also presented ongoing development projects, strategic priorities, and plans for the continued advancement of healthcare services, medical education, and scientific research.<\/p>\n
Welcoming the students, Prof. Dr. Umihani\u0107 emphasized the importance of international cooperation in medical education, noting that exchange programs provide valuable opportunities for future physicians to broaden their professional knowledge, gain experience in different healthcare systems, and establish lasting international professional networks.<\/p>\n
“I am delighted that UKC Tuzla has the opportunity to host medical students from ten different countries. Programs such as these make a significant contribution to the internationalization of our institution and reaffirm our commitment to excellence in medical education and international cooperation. During our meeting, we introduced the students to the organizational structure of UKC Tuzla, our professional capacities, and the key development projects currently underway. I hope they will leave Tuzla and Bosnia and Herzegovina with fond memories, as well as valuable clinical knowledge and professional experience that will benefit them throughout their careers. Our ambition is for UKC Tuzla to be internationally recognized as a center of excellence in healthcare, education, and scientific research. To achieve this, we have made the full professional and educational capacities of our institution available, enabling students to learn from our experienced physicians, observe advanced diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, and expand their medical knowledge in a dynamic clinical environment. Student Kalila H\u00f6rler from Switzerland highlighted that her stay at UKC Tuzla fully met her expectations. “I have truly enjoyed my time at UKC Tuzla. Every day brings an opportunity to learn something new or observe a procedure I had not seen before. Everyone I have met has been exceptionally welcoming, kind, and supportive. I am sincerely grateful for the opportunity to experience a different culture and healthcare system, and this exchange has been an invaluable personal and professional experience,” said H\u00f6rler.<\/p>\n
Ahmet Berke Aladag from T\u00fcrkiye, a fourth-year medical student from Bursa, also shared his experience. “From the moment I arrived, I received a warm welcome from the students, physicians, and the people of Tuzla. At the Clinic for Plastic and Maxillofacial Surgery of the University Clinical Center Tuzla, my mentor and the entire medical team made me feel at home. Every day, we had the opportunity to observe surgical procedures, acquire new knowledge, and learn from experienced surgeons. I especially appreciated that the surgeons and residents in the operating theatre patiently explained every procedure in English and consistently showed genuine interest in our learning, which greatly enhanced the quality of our educational experience. In addition to the professional part of the programme, I was also impressed by the organization of the student exchange, particularly the national tours, which were exceptionally well organized.
