The workshop focused on the use of this innovative endovascular implant for the treatment of intracranial aneurysms, particularly complex wide neck aneurysms.

The workshop aimed to enhance the knowledge and practical skills of the neurosurgical team in the application of this advanced technology in routine clinical practice. The program was led by Dr. Luce De Paoli from Klinikum Klagenfurt am Wörthersee, Austria, who served as the project supervisor and educator.

As part of the hands on training, four endovascular procedures were successfully performed by multidisciplinary teams comprising neurosurgeons from the Clinic for Neurosurgery and radiologic technologists from the Clinic for Radiology and Nuclear Medicine of the UKC Tuzla.

According to the Head of the Clinic for Neurosurgery at the UKC Tuzla, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mirza Moranjkić, endovascular treatment of intracranial aneurysms has been successfully performed at the clinic for the past thirteen years, and the introduction of the WEB (Woven EndoBridge) device represents a significant advancement in the management of these complex cerebrovascular conditions.

“The Woven EndoBridge (WEB) is an innovative endovascular implant designed for the treatment of intracranial aneurysms. It is a self expanding nitinol mesh device that is deployed directly within the aneurysm, where it disrupts blood flow and promotes aneurysm occlusion, thereby reducing the risk of rupture. The device is particularly well suited for the treatment of wide neck bifurcation aneurysms, which are among the most challenging aneurysms to manage. Unlike stent- assisted techniques, which require prolonged dual antiplatelet therapy, the WEB device is implanted entirely within the aneurysm sac, eliminating the need for dual antiplatelet therapy in a large proportion of patients. This significantly reduces the risk of hemorrhagic complications and enables additional urgent neurosurgical procedures to be performed when clinically indicated. The device is delivered to the aneurysm through a microcatheter. Once deployed, it self- expands due to the shape memory properties of the nitinol alloy and conforms to the anatomy of the aneurysm. After its correct position has been verified, the device is detached from the delivery system and remains permanently implanted within the aneurysm,” emphasized Assoc. Prof. Dr. Moranjkić.

The Clinic for Neurosurgery of the University Clinical Center Tuzla (the UKC Tuzla) successfully organized a professional educational workshop dedicated to the application of the WEB (Woven EndoBridge) device in endovascular neurosurgery.
