The University Clinical Center Tuzla is in the final phase of implementing one of its most significant infrastructure projects.<\/p>\n
Through the construction of three photovoltaic solar power plants, with a total installed capacity of over 530 kilowatts-peak (kWp), the University Clinical Center Tuzla is taking a historic step toward energy independence, environmental responsibility, and a drastic reduction in operating costs.<\/p>\n
The total value of this investment is 650,000 KM. Thanks to a high level of solar irradiation and minimal shading of the roof surfaces, UKC Tuzla has ideal conditions for maximizing the use of solar energy.<\/p>\n
The new solar systems are strategically distributed across the Blue Hospital building, the Clinic for Internal Medicine, the Clinic for Children's Diseases, and the surgical branches building at Gradina.<\/p>\n
The financial and environmental benefits of this project are long-term and measurable. According to economic analyses, over the projected 25-year period, the power plant is expected to generate a net profit of over 1.6 million KM.<\/p>\n
The Director of UKC Tuzla, Prof. Dr. \u0160ekib Umihani\u0107, emphasizes that this is an important step in UKC Tuzla's green transition process, as the project represents a strategic move that will directly impact the reduction of electricity costs and increase energy independence. According to him, the implementation of this project will not only ease the burden on the budget but also allow the funds freed up to be directed toward the modernization of medical equipment and the improvement of services and patient care.<\/p>\n
“The value of the project for installing photovoltaic panels on UKC Tuzla's facilities is 650,000 KM. According to our estimates and feasibility study, the payback period for this investment is expected to be within the next 4 to 5 years, and it certainly represents a major step toward savings and reducing the substantial costs the clinical center incurs in electricity consumption. On a monthly basis, UKC Tuzla spends over 100,000 convertible marks on its electricity bill, and this way we will reduce these costs while also actively contributing to the fight against climate change, achieving significant environmental benefits for all our citizens. However, this is not just a project that will bring financial savings, this is the beginning of a broader green transition for UKC Tuzla. Our goal is for the University Clinical Center Tuzla to become the first environmentally friendly clinical center in the region,” said Director Umihani\u0107.<\/p>\n
The project is fully aligned with global trends in the development of so-called “green hospitals,” demonstrating that healthcare institutions can also be environmentally conscious stewards of the environment, not merely consumers of resources.
