Continuity in hematopoietic stem cell transplantations

This year, the bone marrow transplant team from the Clinic of Hematology and Transplantation, University Clinical Center Tuzla has successfully performed five hematopoietic stem cell transplantations (HSCT).

Prof. Dr. Aida Ćustović, head of the Clinic said that the fifth candidate for HSCT was a 49- year- old patient suffering from stage III multiple myeloma, who after initial therapy underwent a pheresis procedure at the Polyclinic for Transfusiology. The collection of sufficient dose of stem cells (CD34) ensured successful autologous hematopoietic stem cell transplantation.

“The transplantation procedures was done without complications, and our patient doing well with uneventful postoperative course.” said Prof. Dr. Ćustović.

So far, the team for bone marrow transplantation from the Clinic of Hematology and HSCT has successfully carried out a total of 142 HSC transplantations- 122 autologous and 20 allogeneic in the treatment of hematological, non- hematological, malignant and non- malignant disorders and other congenital and acquired diseases.
