The University Clinical Center Tuzla (UKC Tuzla) has signed a contract for the procurement of essential medical equipment worth 3 million convertible marks. The contract was awarded to suppliers who fulfilled all the requirements outlined in the public tender documentation. The funding was secured through the Government of Tuzla Canton.
According to Dr. Dušanka Bećirović, Minister of Health in the Tuzla Canton Government, this procurement is part of a broader investment totaling 26 million KM allocated to enhance the operations of UKC Tuzla.
“This is highly valuable and advanced medical equipment, intended for the pediatric population, for the diagnosis and treatment of lung cancer, as well as for various surgical disciplines. These investments have significantly improved the working conditions for medical staff and, most importantly, have contributed to better and more efficient patient care,” stated Minister Bećirović.
On behalf of the University Clinical Center Tuzla, the contracts were signed by Prof. Dr. Šekib Umihanić, Director of UKC Tuzla, who expressed his sincere gratitude to the Government of Tuzla Canton for its continued support and recognition of the institution’s needs.
“Among the equipment included in these contracts, I would particularly highlight the acquisition of an endobronchial ultrasound (EBUS) system, which represents a major advancement in the diagnosis of lung malignancies, a growing public health concern,” stated Prof. Dr. Umihanić.
“We are also procuring a pediatric videogastroscope, which will significantly enhance our ability to diagnose and treat gastrointestinal conditions in children. Until now, young patients had to be referred to other centers for such procedures. With this addition, and thanks to our trained pediatric gastroenterologist and an already established specialized unit at the Clinic for Children’s Diseases, we have now met all the necessary conditions to provide these services locally.
Additionally, the Clinic for Anesthesiology and Resuscitation will receive six new ventilators, essential for intensive care units and operating theatres.
At the Clinic for Radiology and Nuclear Medicine, a state-of-the-art CT scanner has been procured and will be installed at the Blue Hospital, primarily to serve the Clinic for Neurology and the Clinic for Neurosurgery.
Furthermore, the Clinic for Children’s Diseases will be equipped with a modern incubator featuring integrated monitoring and a newborn scale, ensuring optimal care for our youngest patients.”
Prof. Dr. Umihanić emphasized that these investments will significantly enhance the diagnostic and therapeutic capabilities of UKC Tuzla, improve working conditions for medical professionals, and most importantly, provide better care for patients.
Following the contract signing, Dr. Dušanka Bećirović, Minister of Health of Tuzla Canton, accompanied by Prof. Dr. Šekib Umihanić, Director of the University Clinical Center Tuzla, visited the clinics that received the newly procured medical equipment and assessed their ongoing needs for future acquisitions.
