The Ear, Nose and Throat Clinic of University Clinical Center Tuzla in cooperation with the Tuzla Canton Medical Chamber held the ENT School 2016 on Wednesday, 30 March, 2016. Within the scope of this event, two cohlear implant surgeries have been performed. A cohlear implant is an electronic device that restores partial hearing to individuals with severe to profound hearing loss. The device bypasses damaged parts of the auditory system and directly stimulates the nerve of hearing, allowing individuals to receive sound. Both surgeries performed the UKC Tuzla cohlear implant team supervised by Prof Dr. Mahmut Kalcioglu.
Immediately thereafter, Prof.Dr. Mahmut Kalcioglu delivered the expert lecture on cohlear implant surgery “What should be done to avoid failure and complication?”. The ENT School participants also had an opportunity to learn about cohlear implant projects and experiences from Croatia and Slovenia. The organizers of the ENT School 2016 also held a rountable discussion on the topic of “Cohlear implantation in Bosnia and Herzegovina: Where are we?” and “Rehabiltation of children after cochlear implantation: Experience from Bosnia and Herzegovina” with the eminent experts in this medical field from Sarajevo, Mostar, Banja Luka, Belgrade and Tuzla.
