On the occasion of International Nurses Day, celebrated worldwide on May 12, the Clinic for Ear, Nose, Throat and Head and Neck Surgery of the Public Institution University Clinical Center Tuzla organized a professional workshop dedicated to specialized nursing procedures in the care of patients with tracheostomy.
The educational event brought together head nurses and medical technicians from various clinics who, through their daily work, care for patients with tracheostomy cannulas.
The workshop was organized with the support of the Association of ENT Schools Tuzla and the Department of the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Tuzla, highlighting the importance of continuous cooperation between academic institutions and healthcare professionals in advancing nursing practice.
Head Nurse of the Clinic for Ear, Nose, Throat and Head and Neck Surgery, MSc.in Nursing Amela Suljendić, emphasized that the primary goal of the education was to strengthen the competencies of nursing staff through the enhancement of practical knowledge and skills.
“The primary goal is to enhance the skills and competencies of healthcare professionals working with patients with tracheostomy, thereby ensuring a safer, higher- quality approach in everyday clinical practice. Mutual cooperation and the exchange of experiences among staff from different clinics are of particular importance. It is precisely this interdisciplinary approach that contributes to the acquisition of new knowledge and the provision of high-quality healthcare services,” emphasized Suljendić.
The organizers highlighted that continuous professional education and training are essential for improving healthcare standards. Through workshops such as this, nurses and medical technicians are provided with opportunities for ongoing professional development, which directly contributes to better patient care and treatment outcomes.
International Nurses Day is celebrated worldwide in honor of the birth anniversary of Florence Nightingale, the founder of modern nursing. This year’s observance in Tuzla once again reaffirmed the indispensable role of nurses and medical technicians as one of the fundamental pillars of the healthcare system, whose expertise, dedication, and humanity are of immeasurable importance in caring for patients and the wider community.
