As part of the Srebrenica Municipality Day celebrations, the University Clinical Center Tuzla (UKC Tuzla) was awarded the prestigious “Municipal Plaque”, one of the highest honors bestowed by the Municipality of Srebrenica. The recognition was presented to Prof. Dr. Šekib Umihanić, Director of UKC Tuzla, in acknowledgment of the institution’s outstanding contributions to healthcare.
This award highlights UKC Tuzla’s dedicated efforts, particularly through its initiative of free medical examinations for the residents of Srebrenica and surrounding areas. The initiative, organized in collaboration with specialists from various healthcare institutions across the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, has significantly improved access to medical care for the local population.
Last year alone, the EMAUS Center outpatient clinic provided over 1,000 completely free medical examinations with the participation of 58 distinguished medical specialists from various fields of medicine.
In his address, Prof. Dr. Umihanić underscored the significance of humanitarian work and expressed gratitude for being part of initiatives that directly benefit the citizens of Srebrenica.
“The returnees who have come back to their homes, and their coexistence with their neighbors in Srebrenica, are a true example of heroism. They are the greatest inspiration for my humanitarian work and for the efforts of the entire UKC Tuzla team in Srebrenica. Together, despite the weight of the past, and with the goodwill of the people of Srebrenica, we can and must build a society founded on justice, respect, and the rule of law. Srebrenica holds a special place in the hearts of Bosnians and Herzegovinans, making it especially important to me,” said Director Umihanić.
He also called on all citizens and institutions across Bosnia and Herzegovina to support towns like Srebrenica—whether through medical services, education, scholarships for young people, or tourism—to contribute to the continued growth and prosperity of the region.
