In the past 72 hours, the maternity ward of the Clinic for Gynecology and Obstetrics at the University Clinical Center Tuzla recorded the birth of 46 newborns.
Although a decline in the number of births has been observed over the last five years, recent data from the beginning of 2025 indicate a promising shift. The negative trend appears to have come to a halt, offering hope for a demographic recovery.
According to Prof. Dr. Igor Hudić, Assistant Director for Medical Affairs at the University Clinical Center Tuzla, the increase in the number of births compared to the same period last year is an encouraging sign, especially in light of the downward trend seen in recent years.
Prof. Dr. Igor Hudić highlights that the positive news regarding the number of births is further complemented by the ongoing reconstruction and adaptation of the maternity ward, which will significantly enhance conditions for both mothers and newborns.
“This reconstruction marks the beginning of a comprehensive modernization of the facilities dedicated to pregnant women, mothers, and their newborns. Soon, our maternity ward will be equipped to the highest modern standards,” stated Prof. Dr. Hudić. “With the completion of the first phase of the project, the Clinic will gain a much more functional and contemporary space, which will not only improve the quality of healthcare services but also elevate the standard of maternal care across the entire Tuzla Canton.”
