A team of external assessors from the Agency for Quality and Accreditation in Healthcare in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina (AKAZ) visited the University Clinical Center Tuzla (UKC Tuzla) as part of a regular supervisory assessment conducted between two accreditation cycles.
The assessment team, led by Hazim Štitkovac, B.Econ., and including Prof. Dr. Amer Ovčina and Petar Rajić, graduated medical technician, carried out the supervision over the past two days. During the visit, the team evaluated six clinics of the University Clinical Center Tuzla: the Clinic for Internal Diseases, Clinic for Eye Diseases, Clinic for Urology, Clinic for Psychiatry, Clinic for Radiology and Nuclear Medicine, and Clinic for Anesthesiology and Resuscitation.
The evaluators expressed their satisfaction with the overall visit, particularly emphasizing the enthusiasm of the employees and the satisfaction of the patients they interviewed. According to Hazim Štitkovac, many satisfied patients were observed at the Clinic for Eye Diseases and the Clinic for Internal Diseases.
“It is evident that teamwork, proper maintenance of medical documentation, continuous education, and the improvement of working conditions are being actively pursued to increase the satisfaction of both employees and patients,” said Mr. Štitkovac.
The supervision of the Clinic for Psychiatry and the Clinic for Urology was carried out by Prof. Dr. Amer Ovčina, who praised the ambience and environment of the Clinic for Psychiatry, where patients are free to move within the adapted outdoor area of the clinic.
“Patients can spend time in a natural environment full of greenery and tranquility, with a pleasant promenade surrounding the clinic. The entire clinic team strictly adheres to all rules and procedures, including legal and by- law provisions,” stated Prof. Ovčina. He also noted that the Clinic for Urology has made significant progress in a short period, given that it became an independent organizational unit only in 2018.
Petar Rajić visited the Clinic for Radiology and Nuclear Medicine and the Clinic for Anesthesiology and Resuscitation, where he highlighted that, despite ongoing large- scale construction works, the workflow in these clinics remains uninterrupted. He also emphasized the substantial, multi- million investments made in the procurement of new, highly sophisticated medical equipment.
The Director of the University Clinical Center Tuzla, Prof. Dr. Šekib Umihanić, expressed his gratitude to the team of external AKAZ assessors for the constructive and valuable dialogue held during the monitoring visit.
“The Department for Organization and Quality Improvement at UKC Tuzla was established in 2003 as the first department of its kind in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Through its dedicated work, UKC Tuzla became the first accredited clinical center in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and the first to be reaccredited in 2023, reaffirming our position as a leader in quality. The information and recommendations we received today from the AKAZ team are of great importance for our ongoing journey toward excellence. We remain firmly committed to continuously improving the quality of healthcare, investing in cutting-edge medical equipment, and, most importantly, ensuring optimal conditions for both our patients and our employees,” emphasized Prof. Umihanić.
